"He's a real mountain man," my teacher Taterbug would say to people pointing to my bare feet and explaining that we had just hiked around the rock ledges looking for Ginseng. I am from Damascus, Pennsylvania, where I grew up on a farm and began to study the edible and medicinal plants growing wild.
I continued to study herbal medicine through correspondence courses, conferences, and self-study, and mentorship. I attended the Kushi Institute, including shiatsu studies. I then continued shiatsu training with the Endless Mountains School of Shiatsu, and then apprenticed with shiatsu master Kazumasa Kitazawa.
I worked in many places as an herbalist, shiatsu practitioner, and teacher before settling in at Worker Bee Community Acupuncture. I am known as an expert in my area on the identification and use of wild edible and medicinal plants and mushrooms, which I teach about regularly. I also teach about the theory and practice of medicinal herbalism.
My previous website, www.nathanielwhitmore.com, contains various articles and teaching references.
